Steve Wallis’ musical poem:
Walking Where The Roses Grow
Inspired by Walking Where The Roses Grow – Katrina & the Waves (written by Kimberley Rew) and That Don’t Impress Me Much – Shania Twain
Written by Steve Wallis and Johnny Lyness
Version 3, 20/3/2007
Dedicated to Rosie Kane (Scottish Socialist Party MSP for Glasgow)
Gather ye rosebuds while ye may
Olde thyme is still a-flying
And this same flower that blooms today
Tomorrow will be dying
CHORUS:
Well, I ain’t so hip but I’ve been told
The streets of the city are paved with gold
But that don’t impress me much
Rosie Kane has the golden touch
There’s one thing that I do know
I wanna go walking where the roses grooooooow
Walking where Rosie goes
Conquer ye imposters while ye may
Right-wing moles are infiltrating
Recognise the way they betray
“Comrades” and those who they are dating
CHORUS
Sit down at Faslane while ye may
Gordon may be a-nuking
’Cos the Trident he desires today
May render us a-puking
CHORUS
Launch strikes or demos while ye may
G8 leaders will be a-plotting
The time is ripe – “Revolt!” we say
Capitalism is now rotting
